It’s heaven or hell for Diablo 3

15 07 2007

As I promised, a note in English.

It’s been over 6 years since the Diablo 2 release. Six long years of fun with the second Diablo title and it’s expansion pack Lord of Destruction, and after this time we’re still feeling hungry for more. No doubt Blizzard knows ’bout that.

Blizz revealed absolutely nothing at this year’s E3, but that’s a no-surprise for the fan base as the company said it wouldn’t even be at the world’s largest game expo. Although the most popular event in the gaming industry is over, Blizzard has still got a great opportunity to unleash a news item which all of us – Diablo fans – have been waiting for, and that opportunity is BlizzCon in August.

There are only two real possibilities here: Blizzard announces a new franchise, or it announces a Diablo title (a hack and slash, like D1 and D2, or an MMO). Both are very likely. Plans concerning a new brand have been mentioned several times by Vivendi. However, the job opportunities posted at Blizz’s website point out to a new Diablo title. It most likely won’t be an another MMO, as the company already is working on a second expansion for World of Warcraft and a next MMO is out of the picture (simply bad for business at this stage).

BlizzCon attendees will be granted a beta key for the upcoming Blizzard’s title. The company hasn’t said, however, which one. Most likely not StarCraft 2. The reason for not telling which one is simple: Blizz couldn’t tell which one ’cause the title hasn’t been announced yet. Everything should be revealed at the beginning of August.
